I have a choice, I’ll be okay
Ongoing
For too long I didn’t have agency in my life. Unlike the drawings in A Lot Happened, which were mostly improvised, this series is based in ideas of choice and intention. I’m directing characters from previous work - ghosts/memories, house/self - and introducing new supporting cast.
There’s agency on a practical, paper level: choosing what to include in a drawing, how to arrange elements, scale, color. There’s my internal agency: navigating my relationship to the past, and choosing what to carry forward. I’m not asking where do I go or what do I do. I’m saying this is what happened, this is what I have to work with, and I have a choice about what comes next.
Some of these prototypes for more permanent pieces, explorations into materials to see what’s possible.
